A native of Brooklyn, New York, Nimai Garrett is the son of Lawrence Garrett and Nilsa Cobeo-Garrett. He is a Graduate of Bishop Ford Central Catholic High School, attended Allen University where he graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in Social Sciences Degree in 2007 and is a graduate of Webster University (Columbia, SC Campus) with a Masters of Business Administration in 2009. Mr. Garrett is the past Director of Marketing for Brooklyn Plaza Medical Center, Inc. (Brooklyn, NY), current Director of Alumni Affairs & Webmaster at one of the oldest historically black college/university’s in South Carolina, Allen University, and a Co-Owner/Director of Public & Community Relations of the Florence Wildcats Semi-Pro Basketball Team.
Mr. Garrett currently serves as an elected officer on the executive board for two alumni chapters. The first is the Chapter President of Webster University, Columbia campus and second is the 2nd Vice President for the Greater Columbia Alumni Chapter of Allen University. Nimai is a volunteer member of the South Carolina Diaper Bank, past sponsorship team member for the National Kidney Foundation (SC team), and serves as a current Board Member of The Talented Tenth organization of Columbia, SC and the South Carolina Alumni and Advancement Directors Association.
Mr. Garrett is a proud member of the International Brotherhood known as Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated and a member of the prestigious Pi Gamma Mu International Honor Society in Social Sciences. Mr. Garrett was recently honored as one of Columbia’s 2017 Best and Brightest 35 and under by Columbia Business Monthly magazine.
Nimai Garrett has been married to Shanna Garrett for five years. They are the proud parents of a four-year-old boy, Narayan and a six-month-old baby girl, Nadia.
