On this episode, we speak with Jamal Josef. He’s a graduate of Voorhees College. Jamal is a dancer and choreographer. He recently choreographed Beyonce’s acclaimed 2018 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival performance.
During the episode, we discuss what his HBCU experience, his career in entertainment, is blossoming dance ministry and working with the legendary Beyonce.
Jamal is a 2010 graduate of Voorhees College. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mass communications. He is a member of the Eta Iota Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, Fraternity Inc., where he served as step master and president, president of Model Troupe, captain of the Voorhees College Dance Team, and a member of the Voorhees College Concert Choir.
Jamal recently choreographed Beyonce’s acclaimed 2018 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival performance. He collaborated with his fraternity brother and friend, Joe Brown after he auditioned to be one of the choreographers for Beyonce’s performance. He created steps for sections of “Crazy in Love,” “7/11,” “Diva,” her reunion performance with Destiny’s Child “Say my name,” and a mock probate skit for her Historically Black College and University (HBCU) tribute.
In 2017, he competed in Jennifer Lopez’s “World of Dance,” a television dance competition on NBC, starred as a cameo for Saturday Night Live, and performed as a dancer for one of Pharrell Williams’ N.E.R.D. concerts. He’s recently worked with The WallsGroup at The Stellar Awards.
Jamal is also the founder of Eden Dance Ministry. The ministry geared toward the church by bringing dance to the forefront as another form of deliverance. Eden will provide workshops on how to expand movement, creativity in the spiritual and physical. Eden Dance Ministry is currently hosting a fundraiser to hopes to raise funds in order to take the lessons Jamal has learned and enhance the kingdom of God with dance through live shows and visuals. Jamal now resides in Los Angeles where he teaches Hip-Hop, ballet, and tennis classes. In addition, he assists cheerleading teams preparing for competition.
